The Trans Nzoia County Climate Change Planning Committee (CCPC) on Wednesday approved the 2024/25 action plan for implementation of at least 45 proposed community projects under the Financing Locally Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) program.
After scrutinizing the planned activities aimed at adapting to, mitigating or being resilient to the effects of climate change, the committee chaired by Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change (WENRCC) County Executive Dr. Pepela Wanjala gave a greenlight for implementation of the projects.
At least Kes 305 million has been earmarked for the projects under the Climate Change Resilient Investment Grant (CCRIG) financed by development partners as well as the National Government and the County Government of Trans Nzoia.
Earlier last month, members of the Ward Cimate Change Planning Committees (WCCPCs) from the 25 wards reviewed the Participatory Climate Risk Assessment (PCRA) blueprint which indicates the community identified hazards to be addressed by the climate actions.
Dr. Pepela pointed out that implementation of the projects ought to kick on soonest adding that there was need to fast track all necessary processes to ensure that the projects are undertaken by the end of December.
The sentiments were echoed by the department Chief Officer Dorothy Nyukuri who affirmed that the relevant organs, which also include the Climate Change Unit (CCU) and the WCCPCs had shown commitments to propelling the projects to the next levels.
She assured that the funds were available for implementing the projects and called on the teams to collaborate and work harmoniously to ensure fruition of the community projects.
The proposed projects include rehabilitation of dams, establishment of energy saving jikos (stoves) & briquette production centers, spring protections, solarization of boreholes, fish farming promotion through establishment of ponds among others, across the 25 county wards
