ππ πinga Undertakes to PIC-SSA Committee to Grant Autonomy to Estates Agents Registration Board
The National Assembly’s Public Investments Committee on Social Services Administration and Agriculture has welcomed the assurance by the PS State Department for Housing and Urban Development Mr. Charles Hinga to ensure that the Estates Agents Registration Board is detached from the operations and accounts of its mother Ministry and formally allowed to operate autonomously.
Appearing before the Hon. Emanuel Wangwe-led Committee today to explain why the State Corporation has not able to operate independent financial statements audited by the office of the Auditor-General, PS Hinga regreted the current status of the Board’s operations pledging to abide by the law forthwith.
He agreed with the Committee that all public funds channelled to the Board needed to be audited by the office of the Auditor-General.
“Chair, going forward we are going to abide by the law. We will allow this institution to provide their books of accounts independently. We were in the process of acquiring a private auditor but this will be stopped and the office of the Auditor-General brought in as stipulated in the PFM Act”, he added.
Committee members, Hon. Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya), Hon. Jackson Kosgey (Nominated) and Hon. Peter Owino (Ndiwa) encouraged the PS to move with speed and grant the Board the autonomy granted to it under an Act of Parliament.
“What you have told this Committee is the whole truth. Other Principal Secretary come here to argue with the law. We are happy you have acknowledged that your State Department has been operating outside the law and we now require you correct it and support the State Agencies under your docket”, Hon. Wangwe told PS Hinga.
