The Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP), a joint initiative between the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry and the World Bank, held a workshop in Bungoma County to guide local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through the application process for its “KIEP 250+” component.

This program aims to upgrade and link up SMEs, boosting their innovation, productivity, and competitiveness.

Trade, Energy and Industrialization CECM Carol Khalayi lauded KIEP’s efforts in supporting Bungoma’s business community, highlighting the county’s commitment to capacity building and training for MSMEs.

She further announced the upcoming rollout of “Trade loans” to support local businesses.

Khalayi encouraged entrepreneurs to seize the knowledge opportunities offered by KIEP’s training programs, emphasizing that the benefits outweigh any initial expectations for compensation.

Successful applicants can receive up to Sh15 million in grant funding for technical assistance packages tailored to address their specific needs and gaps.

However, time is of the essence! Khalayi urged all interested SMEs to submit their applications before the deadline, which ends in one week.

The workshop witnessed participation not only from local stakeholders but also from CECMs for Trade from neighboring counties like Busia, Kakamega, and Vihiga, signifying regional collaboration in nurturing a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Financial institutions were also present, emphasizing the commitment to providing financial backing to promising ventures.

Overall, the KIEP workshop in Bungoma underscored the potential of targeted initiatives like “KIEP 250+” to empower local SMEs and drive economic growth within the county and beyond.

The call for timely applications and sustained collaboration between businesses, government, and financial institutions sets the stage for a promising future for Bungoma’s entrepreneurial landscape.
