ELDOWAS Looses 500,000,000 Annually Due to Illegal Water Connection

Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) loses Sh 500,000,000 million annually on illegal connection.
According to Edowas MD Peter Biwot only 58 % oc Kenyans have been accessing to basic drinking water while 30% have access to basic sanitation currently.

“As a company we have been losing Sh.500,000,000 per year through illegal water connection which is 42% of non water revenue,” said the Eldowas MD.

The company produces 43 000,000 liters per day and loses 17, 000, 000 liters daily through illegal connections.

Biwott called on residents to act as their watchdog by reporting those involved in illegal connection promising to take stern actions against them.

“I humbly call on residents to act as our watchdog by reporting all those involved in illegal connection with has cost the company allot of money and we promise we will tale legal actions against them. Those who will report those involved in illegal water connection will be given a token of Sh 2,000,”he added.

Biwott further noted that the company loses 18 million liters of water to illegal connections that are happening in the County.

“It is very sad that as a company we are losing 18million liters of water per day due to illegal connections yet we have a deficit of 17 million litres of water per day. As a company, we have launched our enforcement unit and we will ensure that illegal connections are a thing of the past.

He said both high and low-income residents are involved in this illegal act.
Biwott reiterated that Water and sanitation are human right therefore anyone who steals water or discharged sewerage systems without our knowledge is a thief.

“We are going to handle this issue of illegal connections using the due process and anyone who will be found stealing water will face the full force of the law including paying penalties for the loses incurred,” he said.
People who have illegally connected water include Headmaster of schools, churches, police stations, former councilors among others.
