Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) officials now want the National government through the Ministry of interior to offer security to doctors working in Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Baringo Counties.
According to Northrift KMPDU secretary, Dr. Kamonzi Mulei the security of nurses and doctors in the volatile Kerio Valley is at risk.
“As KMPDU officials from the Northrift region we are calling on the National government through the Ministry of interior to offer security to our doctors working in Kerio valley, West Pokot and Baringo Counties when commuting to work and job where insecurity has been the order of the day,” said the KMPDU Northrift boss.
He said if nothing will be done concerning their security they will stop working.
“In the recent, our doctors were attacked on their way to work, we will not allow such to happen while mum President Uhuru Kenyatta should work at speed to ens the insecurity in the region,” he added.
KMPDU Northrift Chairman, Dr. Darwin Ambuka called both Baringo, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet to employ more doctors in the region.
“The said Counties should deploy more doctors and more specialists in terms of general surgeons orthopedic surgeons, psychiatrist and pharmacists, and dentists so that they can be able to meet the emergencies that may happen in the future,” he said.
“It’s quite unfortunate that we have to refer patients from the region to MTRH. We might look at measures that will bring the services availed in the region instead of being referred to Eldoret,” he added.
