Residents From Jasho, Uasingishu Want  Land Compensation From the Government

Residents from Jasho in Uasingishu county are calling upon the government to compensate them over 1billion shillings after they were displaced by the government to pave way for the construction of Eldoret Bypass.

Speaking after a meeting with county commissioner Stephen Kihara, over 48 victims have incurred losses of millions of shillings after 2018 after the agreement of compensation from the government.

“As we are talking we have incurred a lot of loses and we have nowhere to stay, we are calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta as he plans to come, to intervene so that we may be compensated since it is over four years since we agreed on the same,” they said.

They are now calling the government to fast-track the process of payment for them to look for alternative land adding that since the land has appreciated the government should pay them as per the current price.

“We want to  urge the government to look into the court injunction that was presented by the Sirikwa Squatters to stop the compensation which is in process,” they added

However, the county commissioner Stephen Kihara assured them that the compensation process is set to take place soon.

“I want to assure residents from Jasho in Uasingishu that the government is aware and has looked into the matter and soon the said group will be compensated with immediate effect, therefore there should not be any cause of alarm whatsoever,” the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner assured them.
