After the County Government of Uasin Gishu launched a program for youth in Agribusiness, The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Development and Fisheries on Wednesday held a meeting before commencing the inspection of the progress of the program as well as the county promotional crops.

The Youth in Agribusiness program supported 120 youth groups across the county whereby four groups from each ward benefited from 85,000 grafted passion fruit seedlings, 5000 litres capacity water tank for every group, fertilizers for planting and topdressing foliar, fungicides and trailing wires.

Speaking during the meeting, Director Agriculture Reuben Seroney said that the program supported youth to embrace passion fruits farming across the county. Each group benefiting from farm inputs of up to Ksh.250,000 to establish a fruit farm.

Seroney urged the officers to help the groups to practice good Agronomic Practices since the fruits have a high demand at the international market and also ensure the products meet required standards for profitability.

“Demand for passion fruits is very high, let us build the volumes going forward focus on value addition,” noted Seroney.

On his part Deputy Director Ismael Asowa asked the officers to make sure that the farms produce the best for it to become a demonstration site for learning purposes.
