Ukulima Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) on Tuesday handed over 10 handwashing basins donated to the County Government of Uasin Gishu in a bid to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

While receiving the donations, the County’s Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Executive Esther Mutai hailed Ukulima SACCO for its resilience in wealth creation across the country.

“You have been consisted on how you manage the SACCO – becoming a model Sacco in the country. We’re very proud of you as a cooperatives movement fraternity,” Mutai said.

The CECM further thanked the Sacco for considering Uasin Gishu in its donation.

She also affirmed the Uasin Gishu County Government’s commitment to continue supporting the cooperatives movement.

“We want the countrywide cooperatives to interact with the people they serve and Ukulima Sacco is living that dream,” she said.

She also called on all public and private institutions to ensure they have running water at their facilities – pointing out that the country is not yet out of the woos of the pandemic.

The Health CECM further affirmed the need for every Kenyan to continue adhering to the Covid-19 preventive measures that the government has put in place.

“When you wash hands properly, it is for your own benefit, not for the government. Let’s continue adhering to the protocols and also take the vaccine – they are safe and benefits outweighs the risks,” she said adding that; “The more we vaccinate people, the easier it will be to get rid of Covid-19.”

“We saw it fit to donate something to our employers so that we’re together in the business,” he said.

Ukulima Sacco is a countrywide Sacco established 49 years ago. Currently, the SACCO has 7 branches across the country and is planning to open its eighth branch in September in Kakamega.
