Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has asked athletes to invest in academia through sports.

Chemno has noted that sports is a talent greater than any other discipline calling on the sporting men and women to work and improve on sporting skills for the great success before them.

However, he asked them to try and invest in their education as it offers them a chance to be all round in terms of investment and education.

Speaking when he received medalists from the just ended World Under 20 Championships,  Chemno also lauded team terming sports being the best unifier in the nation.

“Sports has always been the best unifier in this Country. That when somebody wins we identify him/her as a kenyan, we want to remain the same to be united by the good things that are within us,” said Chemno.

The deputy governor has been passionate on sports men and women to invest in education even as he encourages them to undertake courses offered in the US. He has been linking budding athletes to international athletics scholarships.

Chemno also asked Kenyan Companies to use athletes as brand ambassadors of their products citing that it displays the pride that we have towards our athletes.

Uasin Gishu County is setting up training camps for sports across the county to ensure talents are tapped and nurtured from early stages of upcoming sports men and women.

Uasin Gishu got 2 golds with Amos Serem and Jackline Chepkoech (winning in 3000m steeplechase), 3 bronze from  Winnie Chemutai (1500m), Faith Cherotich (3000m steeplechase) and Elkana Kiprotich 4x400m relay.
