The court suspends the implementation of the Finance Act Bill 2023

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has obtained orders suspending the implementation of the Finance Act 2023.

The Act is a product of a finance Bill passed by Parliament last week and assented to the law on Monday by President William Ruto.

Lady Justice M Thande in her ruling said she was satisfied that Senator Omtatah’s application met a threshold for conservatory orders.

The Act was to start in the coming financial year.

The bill included the 1.5% tax on house levy and the 5% to be deducted from the content creators.
