Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina intends to accord all residents of Othaya a decent living

Most leaders always have a role model whom they look up to. For Othaya Member of Parliament Wambugu Wainaina popularly known as Mt. Kenya, he says his role model is the late Former President Mwai Kibaki, who the legislator says played a key role in shaping him into what he is today.

Wambugu Wainaina was elected in the National Assembly to represent the people of Othaya on August 2022 on a UDA ticket.

A successful businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Wambugu started Community Empowerment Projects long before he was elected to Parliament. Our crew caught up with him on a Friday afternoon and he was candid in elaborating his style of leadership:

Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina intends to accord all residents of Othaya a decent living

“The fond memories of former President Mwai Kibaki (the longest-serving Othaya MP since 1974) will forever be etched in all Kenyans’ minds. He remains my mentor, having walked with him on the political journey and keenly learning his style of leadership. Mwai Kibaki left an indelible mark in the hearts of the people of Othaya through the several development projects he initiated. Though fitting in his shoes is no mean task, I’m keen to make sure that his legacy lives on by continuing to develop Othaya,” Mr. Wambugu said.

One initiative that has left the people of Othaya talking is the improvement of houses which were in dire situation. Shelter being the second basic need alongside food and clothing, Mr. Wainaina has been mobilizing resources through Wambugu Wainaina Foundation to uplift the living standards of his people.

“A decent house where one can call home is dignifying. One day during my campaign trail, it started raining heavily and we sought shelter in a neighboring home but our hope not to be drenched was short-lived. The house was leaking so much so that we drenched more, beating the logic of we seeking the shelter in the first place. The roof of that house was in pathetic condition. I promised the owner of the house to construct for her a new house once I was elected. I honored that pledge and since then, I have never looked back. Hundreds of Othaya residents can today confidently confide in you that in their locality, there is at least one project or another I have initiated. I’m therefore challenging the Member of County Assemblies to show at least one project they have delivered to the people,” Mr. Wambugu added.

A man of very few words yet visionary, Wambugu called upon leaders to shun petty politics and instead focus on the positive transformation of people’s lives. He also expressed confidence in the leadership of President William Ruto alongside his deputy Rigathi Gachagua. He called on Kenyans to accord the leaders the cooperation they need so that our Nation can progress.
