Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Issues Public Notice Regarding Unclaimed Bodies

The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret has issued a public notice concerning the intention to dispose of unclaimed bodies currently in its possession. The hospital has reported the presence of 36 unclaimed bodies at its mortuary, prompting the call for families of the deceased individuals to collect them within seven days.

This announcement aligns with the stipulations outlined in the Public Health Act CAP 242 and the Public Health Mortuaries Rules of 1991, which govern the proper handling and disposal of unclaimed bodies. MTRH emphasizes the importance of adhering to these regulations to ensure the respectful and lawful management of deceased individuals.

Among the unclaimed bodies at MTRH’s mortuary are three unidentified African males from various locations, including the Juniorate area, Baharini Eldoret, and Neuro. Despite efforts such as fingerprint analyses conducted by the National Registration Bureau, the identities of these individuals remain unknown, adding to the complexity of the situation.

Furthermore, four male bodies from Chemalal, Baharini, Maili Nne, and Kipkenyo have been listed among the unclaimed bodies. However, due to the advanced stage of decomposition, attempts to identify them through fingerprinting have been unsuccessful.

The hospital urges the families or relatives of the deceased individuals to come forward and claim the bodies within the stipulated seven-day period. Failure to do so may result in the initiation of appropriate legal procedures for the disposal of the unclaimed bodies in accordance with established protocols and regulations.

MTRH extends its sympathies to the families and loved ones of the deceased individuals and underscores the importance of timely and proper handling of such matters. The hospital remains committed to upholding the dignity and respect of the deceased while ensuring compliance with relevant legal requirements.

For further information or assistance regarding the identification and collection of the unclaimed bodies, individuals are encouraged to contact the hospital’s administration or mortuary services department.
