Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii today marked a significant milestone in the county’s healthcare improvement efforts by flagging off a KSh 43 million consignment of essential drugs from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). This substantial supply is set to be distributed to all 138 healthcare facilities across the county, reinforcing the local healthcare system.
Despite this positive development, Governor Bii voiced concerns over persistent challenges that have been affecting healthcare delivery. “While we are pleased to receive this consignment, we have faced ongoing issues related to delays and inadequate supplies,” he stated. “These problems have disrupted healthcare services and impacted the well-being of our residents.”
Governor Bii highlighted that the difficulties have been exacerbated by KEMSA’s monopoly on drug distribution, which has led to significant inefficiencies. In response, he has called upon the Ministry of Health to expedite the procurement process and address the supply chain issues promptly.
“We need a system that ensures timely deliveries and uninterrupted healthcare services,” Governor Bii emphasized. “Our commitment to strengthening and expanding healthcare services remains steadfast, and we are determined to meet the needs of our community effectively.”
The governor’s appeal underscores a growing concern among local leaders and healthcare professionals about the reliability of drug distribution systems and their impact on public health. As Uasin Gishu County moves forward, it remains dedicated to overcoming these obstacles and ensuring that all residents have access to the medical care they need.
