As the festive season reaches its peak, concerns about road safety have once again come to the forefront. In Eldoret and beyond, the number of road accidents has surged, leaving families grieving and communities shaken. Local businessman, Zuli Bhachu, is calling on drivers, traffic authorities, and parents to take proactive measures to prevent further loss of life and ensure a safer holiday period.
Bhachu urges drivers to be extra cautious during this busy season. “It’s crucial that everyone refrains from driving under the influence of alcohol. Drunk driving continues to be a major factor in road accidents, and we can’t afford to ignore the risks,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of careful driving, reminding motorists to be alert and avoid distractions on the road.
In addition, Bhachu has called on traffic police to intensify their efforts in removing unroadworthy vehicles from the streets. “Vehicles that are not fit for the road pose a danger to all of us. It's essential that we ensure these vehicles are off the streets to prevent accidents that could easily be avoided,” he stated.
As part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety, Bhachu also proposed that the government through the Ministry of Roads and Transport consider allowing trucks to travel at night. This, he believes, could alleviate traffic jams and reduce the number of accidents caused by slow-moving vehicles during peak hours. “Night-time travel for trucks could help decongest the roads, leading to safer travel during the day,” Bhachu added.
The businessman also urged parents to take extra care of their children, especially during the holiday season when outdoor activities increase. “Parents must ensure they know where their children are at all times and take responsibility for their safety. Children can easily become victims of accidents or other unforeseen dangers,” he said.
Finally, Bhachu reminded the public to be mindful of their finances as January approaches, a month when many families are preparing to pay school fees. “The festive season is a time for celebration, but it's also important to plan for the future. January is just around the corner, and it’s vital to manage money wisely, ensuring there are enough funds to cover school fees and other important expenses,” he concluded.
As the nation celebrates the holidays, Zuli Bhachu’s message is clear: let us all act responsibly, look out for one another, and ensure a safer, more financially secure start to the new year.
