On Thursday, January 9, 2025, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba unveiled the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at Mitihani House in Nairobi. The results marked a significant milestone, with 246,391 candidates attaining the university entry grade of C+ and above, showcasing a commendable achievement for Kenya's education system.
A total of 962,512 candidates sat for the exams conducted across 10,754 centers nationwide. This figure represents a 6.89% increase in candidature compared to the 903,260 candidates in 2023, reflecting the government's continued efforts to expand access to education and accommodate a growing student population.
Resilience Through Adversity
During his address, CS Ogamba acknowledged the numerous challenges students faced during their four years of secondary education. From natural disruptions like floods to the far-reaching impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, students displayed exceptional resilience and determination in their pursuit of academic excellence.
Ogamba praised the candidates for their dedication and attributed their success to the recently introduced grading system, which ensures fair evaluation. He also extended gratitude to teachers and parents, whose support played a vital role in helping students overcome these challenges.
Streamlined Access to Results
For the first time, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) provided an online portal for accessing the results. Candidates and their parents can retrieve results by visiting the KNEC website, navigating to the results tab, and entering their index numbers and registration details. This digital approach aims to simplify the process, reduce delays, and ensure efficient dissemination of results.
A Bright Future for Education
The results set the stage for a promising future in education, as students who met the university entry requirements prepare to join higher learning institutions later this year. Ogamba reiterated the government's commitment to addressing infrastructure and resource challenges to further enhance the quality of education.
Additionally, he highlighted the successful conclusion of the marking process on December 13, 2024, at 40 marking centers. The dedication of examiners was instrumental in ensuring the timely release of the results.
The 2024 KCSE results conclude months of anticipation, celebrating the resilience, effort, and achievements of Kenya's students. As the nation looks to the future, these outcomes symbolize a step forward in its journey toward equitable and quality education for all.
