Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called on President William Ruto to deliver on key development pledges aimed at transforming the county’s economy and empowering local communities.

Speaking during an interdenominational prayer service held in Cheptais, Mt. Elgon, and attended by the President, Governor Lusaka made a passionate plea for urgent investment in critical projects.

“Your Excellency, we stand firmly behind your leadership. I urge you to prioritize the development of modern markets in Chwele and Kipsigon. These facilities will not only enhance trade but also transform the livelihoods of our people,” the governor stressed.

Lusaka unveiled plans to establish a tea factory in the Mt. Elgon region, a move he said would significantly boost agricultural productivity. The county government, he revealed, has set aside Ksh. 10 million in the 2024/2025 budget for free distribution of tea seedlings to farmers as part of a broader initiative to uplift local agriculture.

He further backed proposals to introduce the shamba system in the Mt. Elgon forest, allowing residents to cultivate designated land while maintaining environmental conservation efforts.

On infrastructure, the governor urged the President to fast-track the completion of crucial road projects that are vital for unlocking Bungoma’s economic potential. “Improved road networks will not only ease transportation but will also stimulate trade and investment in the region,” Lusaka noted.

The prayer service brought together national and local leaders, reaffirming their commitment to the region’s progress. Lusaka’s call comes amid growing expectations for the fulfillment of government promises to the people of Bungoma.

President Ruto, in response, reiterated his administration’s focus on ensuring equitable development across all counties.
