The Chagaiya High Altitude Training Centre is progressing steadily under the leadership of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, with completion of the project a top priority for his administration. Marking a significant milestone in the governor’s commitment to youth and sports development, the Chagaiya Training Centre is poised to offer both local and international athletes state-of-the-art facilities.
Chief Officer for Youth Affairs, Mark Some, recently visited the construction site, accompanied by his directors and a quantity surveyor, to assess the progress of the project. "The Governor is very passionate about youth and sports development, and this project is one of the key initiatives he is working to complete as quickly as possible," said Some.
The high-altitude training camp is designed to provide full accommodation and training facilities, with plans for a modern gym, swimming pool, and spacious rooms. Once completed, the camp is expected to attract international sports teams preparing for global championships and the Olympics.
"We are building an ultra-modern facility that will not only serve our local athletes but will also be a top destination for foreign teams looking to train in high-altitude conditions," Some added.
Accompanying the Chief Officer were directors Nicholas Busienei (Sports), Henry Mukolwe (Administration - Sports), Viola Korir (Assistant Director - Sports), and Quantity Surveyor Alex Kemboi, all of whom expressed satisfaction with the progress of the structural components, including the Twin Towers.
In addition to the sports infrastructure, Mark Some highlighted another key initiative of the administration – promoting technical education. Fifty students have been awarded free enrolment at Eminig Vocational Training College, as part of a broader effort to equip the youth with practical skills.
Speaking to the students, Some emphasized the importance of technical education in addressing youth unemployment, noting that such skills are vital for economic growth. "The biggest economies, including the US and China, are facing challenges related to youth unemployment. However, focusing on technical skills, such as those taught at vocational centers, is the most effective way to solve this problem," he said.
Some further encouraged the students to see technical education as a pathway to self-employment and career success. "Technical skills will not only make you highly sought after but will also position you as an employer in fields like engineering, electrical work, plumbing, catering, and more," he concluded.
As both the Chagaiya High Altitude Training Centre and the vocational training initiatives take shape, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s administration continues to prioritize programs that will help develop the youth and foster long-term economic prosperity.
