In a ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Chief Justice Martha Koome presided over the swearing-in of the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and the Vice-Chairperson and Commissioners of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The SRC members sworn into office include Sammy Chepkwony (Chairperson), Jane Gatakaa Njage, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Martin Kizito Ong’oyi, Mohammed Aden Abdi, Dr. Geoffrey Apollo Omondi, Dr. Gilda Odera, and Leonid Ashindu.
For the PSC, the members who took their Oath of Office were Mary Wanjira Kimonye (Vice-Chairperson), Harun Maalimu Hassan, Mwanamaka Amani Mabruki, Boya Molu, Dr. Irene Cherotich Asienga, Dr. Francis Otieno Owino, Joan Andisi Machayo, and Francis Meja.
Speaking during the event, Chief Justice Koome underscored the critical role of both commissions in Kenya’s governance and public service delivery.
“The Constitution envisions a public service that is not only efficient and motivated but also one that operates with the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and adherence to constitutional values and principles,” she said. “The work you undertake will have a direct bearing on how our public institutions serve Kenyans and uphold their rights.”
The Chief Justice emphasized that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission must continue balancing the expectations of public officers for equitable remuneration with the constitutional mandate of fiscal responsibility. She also noted the Public Service Commission's role in building a public service that is competent, inclusive, and efficient, while promoting a culture of innovation and responsiveness to the needs of all Kenyans.
The swearing-in of these officials at KICC marks a significant step in ensuring that these critical commissions fulfill their mandates effectively, in line with the Constitution's aspirations for a people-centered and professional public service.
