Eldoret, Kenya, 27th January 2024 – Church leaders in Eldoret have urged politicians to prioritize dialogue in resolving conflicts and tensions in the country. This call comes in the wake of protests by residents of Molo following the tragic killing of a local activist in Elburgon-Molo.
The provost of ACK St. Matthews, Reverend Bernard Kosgei, emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue over demonstrations and strikes. He encouraged the youth to refrain from engaging in protests as a means of seeking solutions, stressing that open discussions between leaders and citizens are crucial in addressing national issues.
“We should always work on dialogue. If there is any issue that we need to address, let’s talk together. Dialogue is the way to go, not demonstrations and strikes,” Reverend Kosgei stated.
Kosgei further expressed confidence that dialogue could bring about unity and solutions for Kenya’s challenges. "In any matter we want to discuss, let us engage in dialogue, and I believe that if we can do this, we will resolve all our issues together as one family of Kenya," he added.
The call for dialogue comes amid heightened unrest in Molo, where protests erupted after the killing of a prominent local activist. The community's frustration and anger have sparked discussions on the need for greater cooperation and peaceful resolutions, rather than escalating tensions through public demonstrations.
As tensions remain high in parts of the country, the church leaders’ plea for dialogue underscores a broader push for unity and nonviolent conflict resolution in the face of challenges facing Kenyan society.
