DP Kindiki Evaluates Taifa Care Program at Kenyatta National Hospital

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki recently visited Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to review the progress of the Taifa Care program, a flagship initiative under Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) strategy.

During his visit, Prof. Kindiki engaged with both patients and healthcare providers to better understand the program's impact and identify areas for enhancing service delivery. Taifa Care, a pivotal part of the government’s health reforms, has already registered 17 million Kenyans under the Social Health Authority (SHA), granting them access to essential healthcare services.

Accompanying the Deputy President were Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa, Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai and Ms. Mary Muthoni, and KNH leadership, including Board Chair Dr. Samier Murravej and CEO Dr. Evanson Kamuri. Prof. Kindiki used the occasion to reiterate the government’s commitment to addressing persistent health sector challenges and ensuring equitable healthcare for all.

"The Taifa Care program is a key pillar of our Universal Health Coverage agenda," Prof. Kindiki stated. "While we have resolved many of the initial challenges, we remain committed to refining the system to ensure that every Kenyan has access to efficient and timely healthcare services."

The program's central goal is to make quality healthcare affordable and accessible, bridging the gap between rural and urban areas. By focusing on equitable service delivery, Taifa Care aligns with the broader vision of strengthening Kenya’s health system.

Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Barasa emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders. "Healthcare is a shared responsibility. Through the Taifa Care program, we are building a system that prioritizes the needs of all Kenyans," she said.

Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth highlighted the program’s progress as evidence of the government’s unwavering commitment to health equity.

The visit also drew attention to remaining challenges, such as improving infrastructure, minimizing patient wait times, and broadening the range of services covered by Taifa Care.

With continued investment in the health sector, the Taifa Care program stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to improving the well-being of Kenyans. Prof. Kindiki’s visit reflects the administration's resolve to revolutionize healthcare delivery, ensuring no Kenyan is left behind on the path to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
