The Principal Secretary for the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development, Hon. Kello Harsama, continues to champion efforts to bring stability and development to Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs). A seasoned career civil servant, Hon. Harsama is steadfast in his dedication to fostering national prosperity through transformative initiatives.
On Friday, Hon. Harsama joined Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe in a crucial follow-up meeting with political leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, West Pokot, Samburu, and Turkana Counties. The gathering focused on implementing a directive by President William Ruto to reopen and renovate schools while facilitating the resettlement of communities displaced by insecurity along the Kerio Valley.
This engagement is part of a broader strategy to address the dire effects of banditry and cattle rustling in the region, which have disrupted lives and hindered education. Earlier this month, Hon. Harsama accompanied CS Moe to Aroö Sub-County in Turkana South Constituency, one of the areas most affected by the ongoing crisis. Insecurity there has displaced hundreds of families and forced nearly 1,000 pupils out of school.
The government's intervention, driven by Hon. Harsama and CS Moe, seeks to restore hope for affected communities. By rebuilding schools and resettling displaced families, they aim to foster long-term peace and provide children with uninterrupted access to education.
Hon. Harsama's leadership exemplifies the government's resolve to confront insecurity and uplift marginalized regions, ensuring sustainable development and brighter futures for all Kenyans.
