In a significant meeting aimed at advancing regional cooperation, East African Community (EAC) Principal Secretary (PS) Abdi Dubat Fidhow paid a courtesy visit to his Kenyan counterpart PS Rose Njogu to discuss the finalization of the EAC Diaspora Policy.
The EAC Diaspora Policy is a strategic framework designed to enable East Africans living abroad to fully harness opportunities within the region. It aims to harmonize regional initiatives, enhance integration, and unlock socio-economic advantages for the diaspora, which plays a pivotal role in driving growth, innovation, and development across East Africa.
The discussion also focused on improving the welfare of the Kenyan diaspora within the broader EAC region. PS Njogu emphasized the Kenyan government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the diaspora through enhanced access to essential services, protection of their rights, and facilitating their contributions to regional development.
Both PS Njogu and PS Dubat underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the unique challenges faced by diaspora communities. These include issues related to documentation, regional mobility, integration, and access to opportunities within the EAC region.
The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to accelerating initiatives that empower East Africans abroad, enhance their welfare, and contribute to the overall development of the region.
With the finalization of the EAC Diaspora Policy, the prospects for East African nationals abroad to engage more effectively with the region’s socio-economic progress appear bright, strengthening ties between the diaspora and the home countries they represent.
