Julius Kitur, the Chairperson of the Eldoret City Municipality Board, has called for unity and mutual respect among leaders and residents in Eldoret. Speaking to the press, Kitur strongly warned against the introduction of tribalism into local politics, stating that such divisive behavior would not be tolerated in the city.
Kitur emphasized that Eldoret, as a diverse and vibrant community, must continue to foster peace, harmony, and cooperation among its people, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds. “Let us not bring enmity into our beloved city. Eldoret is a place of unity, and we will not allow tribalism to take root here,” Kitur said.
His remarks come amid growing political tensions and discussions around the upcoming national and local elections, where some politicians have been accused of stoking ethnic divisions for political gain. Kitur made it clear that leaders at all levels, especially those in the national government, must lead by example and show respect for one another.
“We expect all leaders to show respect to each other. We do not want to see divisive rhetoric that undermines the peace we have worked so hard to build. The leaders should be role models for the youth and the people of Eldoret, promoting unity, and not creating unnecessary divisions,” Kitur added.
He further emphasized that Eldoret’s citizens would not hesitate to hold their leaders accountable. “We are the ones who will put you in order if you try to bring division and hatred into our city. Our people are intelligent, and they understand the importance of working together. We will not allow anyone to spoil the peace and progress we’ve made,” Kitur warned.
Kitur’s statement reflects the growing call for leaders to prioritize the well-being of all citizens over personal or political interests. Eldoret, a city known for its rich cultural diversity, has seen significant growth and development in recent years. Leaders, both locally and nationally, are being urged to focus on solutions that promote long-term stability and prosperity for all.
As Eldoret moves forward, Kitur’s call for unity serves as a reminder that true progress comes when people put aside differences and work together toward common goals. He closed his statement by reiterating the importance of maintaining peace, with a strong emphasis on leadership that upholds the values of respect, inclusivity, and collaboration.
