Elgeyo Marakwet County to Implement Phase Two of ECDE Teachers' Salary Increment, Boost Digital Learning

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich has announced that the county government will implement phase two of the salary increment for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers this month. The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education in the county, alongside significant investments in infrastructure and digital learning programs.

Governor Rotich, speaking during a briefing, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in rolling out the digital learning program across ECDE centers in the county. He emphasized that the initiative is aimed at ensuring that children in Elgeyo Marakwet are equipped to compete globally by incorporating digital tools in their education. "We have started the journey to make our EMC children competitive globally through digital learning. By using technology to make learning more engaging and efficient, we are preparing our future generation for success," Governor Rotich stated.

As part of the digital learning rollout, 281 ECDE teachers from all 20 wards in the county are currently undergoing training to integrate digital tools into their teaching methods. Upon completion of the training, the teachers will be issued with gadgets loaded with educational content tailored to enhance the learning experience. The program is set to expand, with plans to roll it out to the remaining 247 ECDE centers in the county by July 2025.

In addition to the digital learning advancements, Governor Rotich highlighted that the second phase of the salary increment for ECDE teachers will be implemented this month. This follows the first phase of the increment, which is part of the county’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and ensuring the provision of quality education. “We appreciate our ECDE teachers for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that our children receive the best possible education. Phase two of their salary increment will take effect this month as we continue to focus on improving infrastructure and educational resources,” Governor Rotich said.

The Governor also commended the county’s Education department, led by the CEC, for their tireless efforts in implementing these programs. The ongoing investments in digital learning and teacher welfare underscore the county’s commitment to enhancing the overall education experience and ensuring that future generations have the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Governor Rotich, who is also the current chairperson of the ICT Committee at the Council of Governors (CoG), reiterated that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to integrate technology into public service and education, making Elgeyo Marakwet a leader in digital learning within the country.

The county government’s efforts in improving education, infrastructure, and the welfare of teachers are expected to have a lasting impact on the quality of education and the future prospects of children in Elgeyo Marakwet.
