Enforcement Officers and Police Conduct Environmental Inspection at Bata Shoe Company in Limuru

In a recent environmental inspection carried out by NemaKenya enforcement officers and police, significant health and environmental concerns were raised at the Bata Shoe Company Limited facility in Limuru. The inspection revealed that the factory's roofing materials, made of asbestos, had worn out, posing serious health risks to employees and the surrounding community. Authorities have instructed the company to replace the deteriorating asbestos with environmentally friendly roofing materials to mitigate these dangers.

During the inspection, several other compliance gaps were identified, including the facility's failure to maintain proper documentation for its waste transportation process. This lapse in documentation raised concerns about the company's adherence to environmental standards.

The Bata Shoe Company was directed to immediately address these issues and ensure full compliance with all environmental regulations. Authorities have emphasized the need for the facility to apply for and obtain the necessary licenses, as well as to implement sustainable practices across their operations.

The enforcement officers have given the company a strict deadline to meet the required environmental standards, underscoring the importance of protecting both public health and the environment.
