Felix Koskei Launches Magical Kenya "Mountain and Trail Series" at Thompson Falls

The Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, today officially launched the Magical Kenya "Mountain and Trail Series" by flagging off the Heritage Trail Tour and Tinderet Barng’etuny Mountain Run at the picturesque Thompson Falls in Nyahururu. The event marks the beginning of a thrilling adventure that will see participants traverse five counties, showcasing Kenya’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant tourism potential.

The Mountain and Trail Series will take participants through Laikipia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, and Nandi counties, with each destination offering a unique blend of sport, culture, and nature. The series will culminate in the Taptengele Cultural Festival on January 17, followed by the highly anticipated Tinderet Barng’etuny Mountain Run on January 18.

In his address, Koskei expressed his excitement for the series, noting that it offers an extraordinary opportunity to promote Kenya’s hidden gems, while encouraging a deeper appreciation for the country’s diverse landscapes and cultures. "This initiative is a testament to Kenya’s untapped tourism potential, and I am proud to see it come to life," said Koskei. "The Mountain and Trail Series is not only about sports; it’s about showcasing Kenya as a world-class destination for both adventure and cultural tourism."

Koskei was joined at the launch by several key figures in the tourism and wildlife sectors, including Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, Principal Secretaries John Ololtuaa (Tourism) and Sylvia Museiya (Wildlife), and several Members of Parliament, including Julius Melly. Also in attendance were Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chairman Francis Gichaba and KTB CEO June Chepkemei, who highlighted the significance of the event in positioning Kenya as a leading global tourism destination.

"The series is part of our ongoing efforts to expand Kenya's tourism offerings and promote our diverse cultural and natural heritage," said Gichaba. "We hope to inspire both domestic and international visitors to explore Kenya’s lesser-known attractions."

The Heritage Trail Tour and the Tinderet Barng’etuny Mountain Run are expected to attract both professional athletes and adventure enthusiasts from across the world, while also providing a platform for local communities to showcase their traditions and cultures.

Koskei also lauded the collaboration between the various government agencies and stakeholders in making the event a success. "The support from our partners, including the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Wildlife, and the Kenya Tourism Board, is essential in ensuring that Kenya’s tourism industry continues to grow and thrive," he added.

As the event unfolds over the coming days, it is expected to shine a spotlight on Kenya’s hidden treasures, encourage local tourism, and inspire international visitors to explore the country’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
