In an emotional and heartwarming announcement, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has adopted a young boy, James, whose father tragically lost his life in a brutal attack in Mathare Area 4. The boy’s father was fatally stabbed by thugs in a senseless act of violence as he helplessly watched on a Monday morning while attempting to take his son to school.
Sonko shared the news with his followers on social media, expressing his gratitude to God for blessing him with another son. He wrote, “I thank God for blessing me with another son.” The adoption follows a deep commitment by the former governor to ensure the child's safety, security, and well-being after witnessing the heartbreaking incident that left James without a parent.
Sonko expressed his heartfelt appreciation to several local officials who have played a key role in supporting the boy following his father's tragic death. He specifically thanked Mr. Victor Owiti, the Sub-County Children's Officer in Mathare, Christine Dembah, Senior Chief of Mathare, Agness Nganga, Assistant Chief of Utalii, Sophia Akinyi, a Shofco Gender Champion in Mathare, and Margaret Nzuki from CPV Utalii for their dedication to caring for James in the aftermath of the tragedy.
“Since the kid is traumatized, I will engage the services of a professional therapist for his healing journey,” Sonko continued. “Afterward, he will continue his education at a school of my choice.”
The former governor’s message also included a prayer for James' emotional healing during this difficult period. “May God comfort and protect him as he mourns the loss of his only parent,” Sonko said, further extending his thoughts and prayers to the soul of the deceased father, wishing him eternal peace.
This act of compassion has touched many, with Sonko’s supporters and the wider community praising his decision to take the boy into his care. Sonko has long been known for his charitable efforts and commitment to the welfare of vulnerable children in Nairobi, and this adoption marks yet another example of his personal dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of those in need.
