Governor Bii Applauds Impact of Nutritious Milk Program for ECDE Pupils

Tuesdays and Thursdays have become highly anticipated days for over 40,000 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) pupils in 674 centers across Uasin Gishu County, as they receive nutritious milk, part of a county initiative aimed at promoting child health and education.

Today, the excitement was palpable at Sosiani and Mwiruti ECDE centers, where pupils eagerly awaited their milk servings. Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim, who has been a strong advocate for improving early childhood education in the county, lauded the success of the program, noting the positive impact it has had on both student retention and enrollment rates.

“The milk program has proven to be a game-changer in Uasin Gishu County, significantly boosting pupil retention to over 80 percent and increasing enrollment across our ECDE centers,” said Governor Bii. “By providing a nutritious and energizing meal, we are not only improving the health of our young learners but also creating a more attractive and supportive environment for education.”

The program, which has been implemented across the county, is part of the governor’s broader vision to improve the quality of education and ensure that children from all backgrounds have access to the nutrition they need to succeed. The initiative is also aimed at combating malnutrition and promoting better learning outcomes at an early age.

Teachers and school administrators at Sosiani and Mwiruti expressed their appreciation for the program, highlighting how the milk has contributed to improved concentration and overall well-being of the students. "The children are more engaged, and we have seen fewer absences on milk days," said one teacher. "This initiative has not only supported their health but has also fostered a sense of excitement about coming to school."

Governor Bii emphasized that such programs are vital in laying a strong foundation for education and ensuring that Uasin Gishu's children have the best possible start in life. “We are committed to continuing this initiative and expanding it further to reach even more children, ensuring that no child is left behind in their educational journey.”

The milk program reflects Uasin Gishu County’s ongoing efforts to enhance the educational experience for its youngest learners, making strides toward building a healthier, more educated future for the region’s children.
