Governor Bii Launches Phase One of Stima Mashinani Initiative to Expand Electricity Access

Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Bii today launched Phase One of the Stima Mashinani initiative, a key project aimed at connecting over 600 households to electricity across the county’s six sub-counties. This ambitious initiative, carried out in partnership with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation’s (REREC) Matching Fund Program, is part of a broader effort to significantly increase electricity access in the region.

Governor Bii announced that the project will help raise electricity connectivity in Uasin Gishu from the current 65 percent to an impressive 95 percent, addressing the long-standing need for reliable power in both rural and urban areas. The initiative is integrated with the Angaza Mashinani program, which is designed to promote security and stimulate a vibrant 24-hour economy across the county.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Bii emphasized the transformative potential of the project, noting that it will not only improve the quality of life for residents but also create opportunities for economic growth by facilitating better access to modern technologies and services.

“The Stima Mashinani initiative is a step forward in ensuring that our communities, especially those in remote areas, are not left behind in the development journey. By providing access to electricity, we are fostering security, supporting education, and enhancing local businesses, which will all contribute to the growth of our vibrant 24-hour economy,” said Governor Bii.

Also present at the event was Deputy Governor Hon. Kapkea Evans, alongside Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and various county officials, who all voiced their support for the project. They underscored the importance of electricity access in improving healthcare services, education, and enhancing overall development in the region.

Governor Bii assured the public that the county government will continue to work closely with national government agencies, including REREC, to ensure the successful rollout of Phase One and future phases of the Stima Mashinani initiative.
