Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim, accompanied by a high-profile delegation, conducted an extensive inspection tour of several vital development projects across the county on Thursday. The delegation included Mr. Augustine Cheruiyot, Senior Advisor to President William Ruto and head of the Presidential Economic Transformation Secretariat, highlighting the strategic importance of these projects in the region’s growth and transformation.
The visit comes two weeks after President William Ruto’s tour of Uasin Gishu, where Governor Bii appealed for urgent national government intervention to fast-track the completion of several critical projects in healthcare, sports, roads, agriculture, and energy. During the President’s visit, he had committed to supporting these initiatives, pledging that the national government would work to ensure their timely delivery to benefit the residents of Uasin Gishu.
Among the projects inspected were Ziwa Level 5 Hospital, MoiSoy Milling Plant in Soy, Tiret Level 4 Hospital in Turbo, Kesses Level 4 Hospital, Burnt Forest Hospital in Ainabkoi, and the 64-Stadium in Eldoret. These projects, which have faced significant delays in their completion, are set to transform service delivery in the region and provide a much-needed boost to local economic growth.
The inspection team, which also included key county officials such as CECM for Health Services Dr. Abraham Serem, CECM for Finance Micah Rogony, CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Sam Kotut, CECM for Infrastructural Development and Public Works Eng. Joseph Lagat, and Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health Dr. Paul Wangwe, showcased the county's unified approach in addressing development challenges and ensuring these projects meet the needs of the people.
Governor Bii expressed the importance of these projects for the county’s overall development. “The successful completion of these initiatives is critical for improving the livelihoods of our residents. From better healthcare services to increased agricultural productivity and the development of talent through sports, these projects will create long-lasting positive impacts across Uasin Gishu,” he said during the tour.
Mr. Cheruiyot, representing the national government, reiterated President Ruto’s commitment to ensuring the projects are delivered efficiently. “The national government understands the significance of these projects in enhancing the welfare of the people of Uasin Gishu. We are here today to ensure that they are completed without further delay, and we will continue to provide the necessary support to see that they reach their full potential,” he said.
The delegation paid particular attention to Ziwa Level 5 Hospital and Tiret Level 4 Hospital, both of which are expected to improve healthcare access significantly in the county. These hospitals, once completed, will help address the region's growing healthcare needs, offering better medical services to residents and reducing the burden on nearby health facilities. In addition, the team visited the 64-Stadium project in Eldoret, which, when finished, will become a regional hub for sports and talent development. The stadium is expected to attract sporting events that will not only promote local talent but also stimulate the tourism and hospitality sectors, contributing to the overall economic growth of Uasin Gishu.
At MoiSoy Milling Plant in Soy, the team focused on the role of the project in boosting the agricultural sector. The plant will provide local farmers with better processing opportunities for their produce, improving the value chain and increasing their income potential. This aligns with Governor Bii’s vision of turning Uasin Gishu into a major agricultural hub that is not only self-sufficient but also a key player in the regional economy.
Burnt Forest Hospital in Ainabkoi, another crucial project, was also part of the inspection. Once completed, this facility will serve residents in the Ainabkoi sub-county and its neighboring areas, improving access to medical care and reducing the distance patients have to travel for treatment.
Governor Bii assured the public that the implementation of these projects would be carried out with the utmost transparency. “The partnership between the county and national government is a testament to our shared commitment to sustainable development. We will ensure that every project is executed with efficiency, transparency, and accountability, to ensure it meets the needs of our people,” he said.
The residents of Uasin Gishu have expressed optimism about the progress of these projects, with many eagerly awaiting their completion. Local community leaders and organizations have also voiced their support, emphasizing the positive impact the projects will have on employment opportunities, healthcare access, and overall quality of life in the region.
“The completion of these projects will improve service delivery and open up new economic opportunities for our people. The national government’s involvement is a welcome development, and we hope that the projects will be completed as promised,” said one local leader.
The inspection highlights the critical role of collaboration between county and national governments in driving meaningful and sustainable development in the region. Governor Bii expressed his belief that with continued support and efficient implementation, these projects will not only benefit Uasin Gishu but will also set the stage for broader development across the Rift Valley region.
Once completed, these projects are expected to significantly improve the livelihoods of Uasin Gishu residents and elevate the county’s position as a key development hub in Kenya. The county government, in partnership with the national government, remains focused on ensuring that these projects are not only completed but also fully operational, creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
