Governor Lusaka Leads Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Neonatal Unit

 



Bungoma County, January 16, 2025 – Governor Kenneth Lusaka today led the groundbreaking ceremony for a new, state-of-the-art Neonatal Unit at Naitiri Sub-County Hospital, marking a significant advancement in the region's healthcare infrastructure. The new facility is part of the county's ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and meet the growing needs of the local population.

Speaking during the event, Governor Lusaka expressed his commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Bungoma County. “This neonatal unit is a major milestone in our journey to enhance healthcare in Bungoma. It will provide critical care for newborns and reduce mortality rates in our region,” he stated.

The Governor also took the opportunity to address the ongoing strike by nurses, urging them to pursue dialogue as a means of resolving their grievances. "I recognize the concerns of our healthcare workers, but I urge them to embrace dialogue as the most constructive way forward. It is through open discussions that we can find lasting solutions and restore critical healthcare services to our people," Governor Lusaka said.

His administration has been proactive in addressing healthcare challenges. In the same breath, the Governor announced that 568 additional health workers have been deployed to various facilities across the county to strengthen the healthcare workforce and ensure continued service delivery.

Governor Lusaka reaffirmed that healthcare remains a cornerstone of his leadership agenda. “The well-being of our people is of utmost importance. As leaders, it is our duty to ensure that our healthcare system is resilient, accessible, and effective,” he said.

The new Neonatal Unit will serve as a key resource for maternal and child health care, providing specialized care for newborns and reducing the burden on larger regional hospitals. Governor Lusaka expressed optimism that the project will improve health outcomes for mothers and children across Bungoma County.

As part of his administration’s broader healthcare improvement efforts, the Governor emphasized that the deployment of additional healthcare personnel would ensure more efficient and accessible services for residents. “We must work together to fortify our healthcare system and ensure that it meets the needs of every resident,” he said.
