Governor Rotich Commissions Chebusie Community Maternity

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich has officially opened the Chebusie Community Maternity in Metkei, a facility that is set to significantly improve access to maternal healthcare services for local women. The new maternity ward will reduce the need for expectant mothers to travel long distances for essential maternity care, providing much-needed services closer to home.

Governor Rotich, who presided over the commissioning ceremony, praised the collaborative efforts that led to the establishment of the maternity facility. He commended the German doctors who worked alongside Moi University and Ampath in making the project a reality. "This facility is a testament to the power of partnership and the dedication of everyone involved in ensuring better healthcare for our people. It will serve as a vital resource for expectant mothers in the region, saving lives and improving maternal health outcomes," Governor Rotich stated.

The event was attended by several key officials, including Robert Tenge, Principal of Moi University College of Health Sciences, and outgoing EMC County Assembly Speaker Philemon Sabulei. Other notable attendees included area MCA Lawi Kibire, Soy South MCA Jonah Tanui, Dr. Jeremiah Laktabai, Health CEC Monicah Rotich, Chief Officer Jeremiah Chirchir, and other local leaders.

Mothers in the region previously had to travel long distances to reach maternity facilities, often facing challenges that compromised their health and that of their newborns. The Chebusie Community Maternity will now serve as a crucial healthcare center, providing comprehensive maternal services including antenatal care, safe deliveries, and postnatal care.

Health officials and local leaders have expressed optimism that the new facility will greatly reduce maternal mortality rates and contribute to improved health outcomes for women and children in Elgeyo Marakwet. Dr. Monicah Rotich, the county's Health CEC, highlighted the importance of community-based healthcare services in ensuring that no mother is left behind.

The commissioning of Chebusie Community Maternity is seen as a major milestone in the county's healthcare development, with plans for further expansion of health services across the region. Governor Rotich reassured the public that his administration remains committed to improving healthcare infrastructure, especially in remote areas, to ensure equitable access to quality services for all.
