Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa Reaffirms Commitment to Universal Health Coverage

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, visited patients at Kenyatta National Hospital on Tuesday, reaffirming the government's commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Kenyans. Dr. Barasa was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai (Medical Services) and Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health), Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, and Kenyatta National Hospital CEO Dr. Evanson Kamuri.

During the visit, Dr. Barasa emphasized the government's unwavering dedication to ensuring that all citizens have access to affordable and quality healthcare services. "We are committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage, ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind when it comes to access to healthcare," she said.

The Ministry of Health also shared positive updates on the progress made in the country's healthcare system. Dr. Barasa confirmed that the challenges previously faced by the system have now been resolved, and the healthcare delivery system is fully operational.

"We are pleased to announce that the issues affecting the healthcare system have been addressed, and services are now running smoothly," she added. "We continue to work tirelessly to improve service delivery across the country."

The Ministry also encouraged all Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), which allows them to access care at various health facilities throughout the country. "We urge all citizens to take advantage of this initiative and ensure they are registered with SHA to receive the care they need, when they need it," Dr. Barasa noted.

The visit to Kenyatta National Hospital comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Health to monitor and improve healthcare services nationwide, with the aim of achieving Universal Health Coverage for all Kenyans.

As the government continues to invest in healthcare, the commitment to improving access, affordability, and quality of services remains a top priority.
