Hon. Mary Otucho Emaase Highlights Key Development Projects for Teso South as President Ruto Visits Busia

Member of Parliament for Teso South, Hon. Mary Otucho Emaase, has expressed optimism that President William Ruto’s upcoming development tour in Busia will mark significant strides in the region’s growth, particularly in her constituency of Teso South. During a meeting with Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma and fellow Members of Parliament, Hon. Emaase highlighted several key projects she is championing, which are expected to enhance the development of Busia County.

“President Ruto’s visit will kick off the implementation of critical projects, as well as boost ongoing initiatives that will significantly elevate the development levels in Busia,” Hon. Emaase said, underscoring the importance of focusing on Teso South during the discussions.

The legislator is particularly looking forward to the following development interventions:

  1. Upgrade of Lukolis Model Hospital: Hon. Emaase confirmed that plans are underway to upgrade Lukolis Model Hospital to a Level 4 facility. Ministry of Health officials recently visited the site for inspection, signaling that the project is set to move forward.

  2. Omoloi Agricultural Centre: An additional KSh 70 million has been allocated to complete the Omoloi Agricultural Centre, a crucial initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity in the region.

  3. Students Hostels and Educational Support: The MP is also focused on improving education facilities, with plans to construct students’ hostels and provide equipment support for Amukura Teachers Training College (TTC), Okame TVET, and Alupe University.

  4. Alupe Dam Water and Supply Project: Hon. Emaase announced that the tender for the rehabilitation of the Alupe Dam Water and Supply project has been awarded, a critical step towards addressing water supply challenges in the area.

  5. Market Development: The MP is advocating for the development of Kemodo and Lukolis markets, which will provide economic opportunities for local traders and improve livelihoods in the region.

  6. Electricity Connectivity: A significant project to launch the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity and Maximization is also in the pipeline, which is expected to improve electricity access in rural areas of Teso South.

  7. Road Infrastructure: Together with other local leaders, Hon. Emaase is pushing for the tarmacking of the Machakos-Amukura-Nambale-Butula road, a key infrastructure project that will enhance connectivity and ease transportation in the region.

“I am excited to be part of the discussions with Governor Otuoma and fellow MPs as we prepare for President Ruto's visit,” Hon. Emaase said. “While we collectively push for the development of Busia County, Teso South remains central in my lobbying efforts for resources and infrastructure.”

The anticipated visit by President Ruto is expected to bring a renewed focus on the development of Busia County, with Teso South poised to benefit from the various ongoing and upcoming projects.
