Kenya Mourns the Passing of Dr. Moses Okhoba Mulomi, Former Deputy Governor of Busia County

Kenya and Busia County are in mourning following the sudden death of Dr. Moses Okhoba Mulomi, the former Deputy Governor of Busia County and a distinguished leader in the country’s cultural sector. His passing has left a deep void in both his local community and the broader national landscape, where he was widely respected for his contributions to public service and the creative economy.

Dr. Mulomi, who served as the second Deputy Governor of Busia County, was known for his remarkable leadership and dedication to his community. His career in public service also saw him make significant strides in the cultural and creative industries, particularly through his work as the Director of the Kenya Cultural Centre (KCC). During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in revitalizing the KCC, spearheading key initiatives, including the ongoing construction of the Marachi Cultural Centre in Butula Sub-County.

Ababu Namwamba, the current Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, paid an emotional tribute to his late colleague and friend. "Moses was not just a brilliant professional but also a responsible big brother and a dear friend," Namwamba said. "His intellect, kindness, and unwavering support for others were truly remarkable. His legacy of leadership and mentorship will live on."

Dr. Mulomi’s contributions were not limited to his work in Busia County and the creative sector. He was also deeply involved in supporting the aspirations of others, often encouraging those around him to dream bigger and achieve more. His ability to inspire and uplift others earned him the admiration of many.

In October 2022, when Namwamba was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Dr. Mulomi personally visited his office to congratulate and offer words of encouragement. Namwamba recalled that Dr. Mulomi’s last post on social media, dated December 21, 2024, was a congratulatory message to him following his appointment as Kenya's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON).

The passing of Dr. Mulomi has been met with an outpouring of tributes from across Kenya and beyond. Many who knew him describe him as a man of integrity, vision, and humility. His leadership extended beyond his official roles, as he was always quick to celebrate others' successes and inspire them to reach their potential.

As the country mourns this irreplaceable loss, Namwamba concluded his tribute with a prayer for the late Dr. Mulomi. “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

Dr. Moses Okhoba Mulomi's legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to the people of Busia County and Kenya will remain a source of inspiration for years to come.
