Uasin Gishu Governor, Hon. Jonathan Bii, has announced the ongoing transformation of Kipchoge Stadium, which is receiving a significant upgrade to meet international standards ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). As a key landmark for the County of Champions, the renovation will ensure that the stadium is ready to host top-tier sporting events and provide an exceptional experience for athletes and spectators alike.
Governor Bii expressed his excitement about the project, noting that the improvements will bolster the county’s reputation as a hub for sports excellence. "Kipchoge Stadium has always been a symbol of Uasin Gishu's sporting prowess, and with this major facelift, it will be fully equipped to host high-profile international events, including the Africa Cup of Nations," Governor Bii said during a tour of the facility.
In addition to Kipchoge Stadium’s renovation, the 64 Stadium project is also nearing completion. The new stadium will play a crucial role as a training ground for participating teams during the AFCON games. "The completion of 64 Stadium will further solidify Uasin Gishu as a key player in the sports sector, enhancing our capacity to host international teams and contribute to the success of AFCON," the Governor added.
The ongoing developments were showcased during a recent visit by President William Samoei Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and officials from the Ministry of Sports. The leaders were taken on a tour of Kipchoge Stadium and expressed their support for the project, recognizing its importance in elevating Kenya’s sports infrastructure.
Governor Bii expressed his gratitude for the national government’s support in realizing these crucial upgrades. "This is a collaborative effort, and with the support from our national leaders, we are confident that Uasin Gishu will continue to shine as a beacon of sports development," he said.
