Lands CS Alice Wahome Addresses Community Land Registration Challenges in Consultative Meeting

During a consultative breakfast meeting focused on community land registration and governance, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome reiterated her Ministry’s commitment to facilitating the registration of community lands in Kenya. The meeting, which brought together both state and non-state actors, sought to address emerging challenges and discuss the ongoing efforts towards securing land rights for communities.

Wahome, who oversees the registration process, highlighted that her Ministry has established structures to support the implementation of community land registration, a critical step in ensuring that land rights are effectively recognized and protected.

“This consultative meeting is primarily focused on the National Land Commission’s advisory regarding the transition of undissolved group ranches to communities,” said Wahome. She acknowledged the emerging issues raised during discussions, emphasizing that appropriate measures are being put in place to address the concerns and streamline the process.

The CS also expressed appreciation for the National Land Commission’s advisory, noting its importance in guiding the transition and improving governance of community land. She emphasized that the work being done is part of a broader effort to safeguard community land rights, which is vital for promoting social justice and economic development in Kenya.

“I look forward to continuing our collaboration with the National Land Commission, whose advisories are timely and crucial to the success of the community land registration and governance agenda in Kenya,” Wahome added.

The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between government agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders in overcoming challenges related to land governance and ensuring that Kenya’s land reforms are inclusive and equitable.
