Livestock Development PS Hon. Jonathan Mueke Visits Shoe Industry Training and Production Centre to Boost Capacity and Support MSMEs

Hon. Jonathan Mueke, the Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, visited the Training and Production Centre for the Shoe Industry (TPCSI) today, a facility under the Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC). The visit aimed to assess the center’s operations and explore ways to enhance its capacity in producing quality leather products while supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya.

During the visit, Hon. Mueke was joined by Dr. Noor, the CEO of the Kenya Leather Development Council, where they evaluated the center's current operations and discussed strategies for improving its services. TPCSI plays a vital role in the leather industry by producing quality leather products at subsidized rates, providing MSMEs with affordable raw materials, and fostering economic empowerment within the sector.

The center also offers critical training programs that equip individuals with the necessary skills for employment and self-reliance in the leather industry. These training opportunities are pivotal in addressing the skills gap in the sector and ensuring the sustainable growth of Kenya's leather industry.

In his remarks, Hon. Mueke highlighted the importance of expanding the center’s capacity to better serve the Kenyan public and support the growing demand for quality leather goods. He emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering job creation within the MSME sector.

Dr. Noor echoed as leather production volumes rise swiftly and Kenya's first Leather Industrial Park in Machakos County nears completion, it's crucial to have a sufficient number of trained leather technicians, artisans, and staff.

PS Jonathan Mueke recently visited the Training and Production Center for the Shoe Industry (TPCSI) in Thika, a specialized facility designed to meet the needs of the footwear and leather goods sectors.

There is significant potential to replicate such institutions across the country to support the expanding leather industry and offer extension services as general manufacturing hubs for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. Hon. Susan Mang'eni PS State Department For MSMEs dev't Dr Juma Mukhwana.
