Moisbridge Ward MCA, Patrick Kimeli Kimaiyo, has expressed his deep concern after a devastating fire broke out early Saturday morning, destroying businesses and property worth millions of shillings in Moi’s Bridge town. The fire, which is believed to have originated from a suspected gas explosion, ravaged the business district, leaving many traders devastated.
Kimaiyo, who visited the scene shortly after the incident, stated that the fire caused significant damage to local businesses and properties.
"We have woken up to a tragedy where a fire inferno has burned down businesses and property worth millions. We are currently working with the area Chief, my ward administration team, and the town manager to identify the affected businesses and calculate the total losses," Kimaiyo said.
The MCA also acknowledged the prompt response from both the Trans-Nzoia and Uasin Gishu County governments, which dispatched fire brigades to assist in containing the blaze. "We appreciate the swift action taken by the fire brigades from both counties. They have helped us put out the fire and prevent it from spreading further," Kimaiyo added.
In light of the destruction caused by the fire, Kimaiyo has called on the county government to establish a fire substation in Moi’s Bridge to enhance emergency response capabilities and prevent future disasters. "We urge the County Government to set up a fire substation here in Moi’s Bridge. This will help in responding quickly to any future incidents and protect the growing businesses in our town," he said.
Kimaiyo also promised to ensure that the affected business owners receive the necessary support. "I want to assure all those who have been affected that we will do everything possible to help them recover. We will work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure they receive the assistance they need to rebuild their businesses," he vowed.
The devastating fire has left many traders grappling with significant losses, but Kimaiyo’s commitment to assisting them and advocating for better fire safety infrastructure in the region offers hope for a quicker recovery. As the community comes together to rebuild, local leaders are calling for enhanced safety measures to safeguard lives and properties in the future.
