Gathoni Wamuchomba, the Member of Parliament for Githunguri, has sharply criticized the recent verbal outbursts by several MPs, calling them embarrassing and disrespectful, particularly in the presence of the President. Speaking on Monday morning, Wamuchomba expressed her disappointment over the vulgar language used by some parliamentarians, including the recent incident in Kakamega and another verbal altercation in the presence of President William Ruto.
Wamuchomba emphasized that such behavior was unbecoming of elected leaders and reflected a deep disregard for the country's leaders, especially the President. "I can’t abuse anyone in the presence of my mother or my bishop, whom I deeply respect. The Kakamega outbursts by a parliamentary leader and the recent vulgar verbal diarrhea by an MP in front of the President only show how low they regard our President," she stated.
She further lamented that the disrespect extended not only to the President but to Kenyan women, stating that it was "embarrassing" for the President to witness an MP disrespecting mothers in his home county. "Will he apologize?" she questioned, referring to the MP's conduct.
Wamuchomba went on to address the youth, particularly the younger generations such as Gen Alpha and Gen Z, urging them to reflect on the example set by public figures. "If MPs are doing this publicly, what do you expect the Gen Alpha and Zees to do?" she asked.
The Githunguri MP also made a passionate defense of Kenyan women, saying that the country belongs to mothers, and that they would continue to defend it from those who seek to harm it. "Someone tell that chauvinist from Dadaab that Kenya belongs to our mothers unapologetically, and we shall defend it from looters and murderers," she asserted.
Wamuchomba's remarks have sparked a broader discussion on the behavior of elected leaders, with many calling for greater accountability and respect within the political arena. Her comments reflect growing concern over the tone of public discourse and the need for leaders to set a positive example for the youth of the nation.
