National Assembly Minority Leader Demands Resignation of Justin Muturi Over Abduction Remarks

The National Assembly Minority Leader, Junet Mohamed, has called for the resignation of Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, Justin Muturi, following controversial remarks he made during a Sunday press briefing regarding ongoing abduction cases.

Muturi's statements, which were seen as stirring tensions, have drawn criticism from various quarters. Junet Mohamed, a vocal critic, expressed his concerns, stating that Cabinet Secretaries must serve the entire population of Kenya, not prioritize a specific region or group. He emphasized that if a government official’s values no longer align with the administration they serve, resignation is the best course of action.

"When you feel like your beliefs are not compatible with the government you are serving, the best thing to do is resign. Don’t create commotion or unnecessary fights in the government. Be man enough and resign," Junet declared.

The Suna East Member of Parliament further scrutinized Muturi’s decision to withhold key information, particularly the delay in disclosing the reasons for his son's arrest. Muturi's son was reportedly abducted in late June of the previous year, during a wave of protests against the government. However, it wasn't until seven months later that Muturi publicly addressed the issue, claiming that his son had not been charged with any offense.

"Why wait for seven months to tell Kenyans why your son was arrested? Why didn’t you tell them the day he was released?" Junet questioned, suggesting that Muturi's timing raised more concerns than clarity.

Muturi's comments and the subsequent calls for his resignation have sparked an ongoing debate on government accountability and transparency, further intensifying political divisions within the country.
