National Police Service Announces Key Leadership Changes

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced several significant leadership changes aimed at enhancing service operations across the country. Inspector General Douglas Kanja described the reshuffling as routine, designed to strengthen key units and improve policing strategies.

Dr. Resila Onyango has been appointed the new Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit, while Michael Nyaga Muchiri takes over as the police spokesperson. Muchiri, who previously served as the Kiambu Police Commander, steps into the role with a wealth of experience in law enforcement communications.

In regional policing, Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah has been transferred to Nairobi, replacing Adamson Bungei, who is now the Director of Operations at the police headquarters. Bungei assumes the role from William Yiampoy, whose next assignment remains undisclosed.

Ali Nuno, the Kwale Police Commander, has been promoted to Coast Regional Police Commander, with a special focus on addressing the growing challenges of gang violence in Mombasa.

Further restructuring sees Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, formerly the head of the National Forensics Laboratory, taking on a new role as Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House. Rosemary Kuraru has been appointed to lead the National Forensics Laboratory, while Judy Jebet assumes the position of Head of Community Policing, replacing John Gachomo.

Other changes include Daniel Korir, who will now command the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU), and Michael Sang, who has been named the new Eastern Regional Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

These appointments are part of an ongoing effort by the NPS to ensure effective policing and enhanced public safety across Kenya.
