Ngenyilel Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Benjamin Natui has strongly criticized recent remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, calling them divisive and unhelpful to the country’s development agenda.

In a statement issued on Thursday, MCA Natui condemned Gachagua’s utterances, accusing him of attempting to discredit the current government and seeking cheap publicity. The MCA emphasized that Gachagua’s decision to air grievances now, after leaving office, raised serious questions about his motives.

"It is disappointing to see such statements coming from a leader who held a powerful position in government for years. If these issues were truly important, Gachagua had the opportunity to raise them while still in government. Why speak out now, and why in such a manner?" Natui said.

The MCA urged political leaders to focus on issues that directly impact the lives of Kenyans, including infrastructural development, healthcare, education, and job creation. According to Natui, Gachagua’s remarks were serving only to create division, rather than addressing the real challenges facing the nation.

"Kenya needs leadership that is focused on moving the country forward. Leaders should speak on matters of development and not waste time on rhetoric that does nothing to improve the lives of our people," he added.

Natui also dismissed claims that Gachagua was trying to position himself as a cleaner figure in Kenyan politics. "What Gachagua is doing is nothing more than playing politics for personal gain. He wants to appear like the hero while deflecting attention from his own record in office," he said.

With political temperatures rising ahead of the 2027 elections, the MCA reminded leaders that their duty was to serve the people, not to use inflammatory language or tactics to further personal ambitions. He stressed that unity and constructive dialogue were essential for the progress of the nation.

"If Gachagua wants to run for office again, he should wait for 2027 and let the voters decide. But until then, he should focus on how to build this country and contribute positively to the national discourse," Natui urged.

As tensions between political figures continue to mount, MCA Natui’s call for focus on development and unity serves as a reminder that the Kenyan people are looking for leaders who prioritize national interests above personal rivalries. Only time will tell how the political narrative will unfold in the lead-up to the next election.
