Opiyo Wandayi Meets with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi to Discuss Last Mile Electrification Project for North Rift Region

Kapseret Member of Parliament, Hon. Oscar Sudi, met with Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, to discuss the transformative Last Mile Electrification Project aimed at expanding access to electricity across the North Rift region.

The meeting, held in Kapseret, focused on the government's ambitious initiative to ensure affordable and reliable electricity reaches every corner of the country, with a particular focus on rural and underserved areas. The Last Mile Electrification Project, which aims to connect more households to the national grid, is expected to be a game-changer for communities in the North Rift, including Kapseret, enhancing the lives of residents and powering local businesses.

"This is a critical initiative that will light up homes, create economic opportunities, and improve the overall quality of life for our people," said Hon. Sudi. "The North Rift region has long struggled with access to consistent electricity, and the Last Mile Electrification Project is set to address this challenge, opening up new opportunities for businesses, education, and healthcare."

During the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the journey toward a fully electrified nation. He underscored the importance of affordable energy in driving economic development and social progress, particularly in rural areas.

"The Last Mile Electrification Project is not just about power supply; it’s about empowering communities and creating opportunities for growth," said Wandayi. "We are committed to ensuring that all Kenyans, including those in remote areas of the North Rift, benefit from this transformative project."

The project will also help bridge the infrastructure gap in rural Kenya, allowing for better access to modern amenities, while encouraging investment and entrepreneurship in regions previously without stable power supply.

Hon. Sudi expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Energy for its dedication to improving the energy situation in the region and pledged to continue working closely with the government to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

"With affordable, reliable electricity, our people can engage in productive activities, children will be able to study at night, and businesses will thrive. This project is a vital step towards a brighter future for the North Rift region," Sudi concluded.

The Last Mile Electrification Project is expected to roll out in phases, with the goal of connecting more than 1 million new households to the grid across the country over the next few years. The initiative is in line with the government's broader vision of enhancing access to electricity and driving economic development across all regions of Kenya.
