Police Inspector Arrested for Allegedly Demanding Bribe and Attacking Nairobi Duty Officer

Police Inspector Guyo Dida, a Deputy OCS at Mavidindi Police Station in Kathonzweni, has been arrested after allegedly demanding a bribe from a motorist at Globe Cinema Roundabout in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). The officer, who is also accused of attacking a Nairobi Central duty officer, was taken into custody after the incident, which has raised serious concerns about police misconduct.

According to reports, Inspector Dida stopped a motorist at Globe Cinema Roundabout and demanded Ksh 15,000 in exchange for not taking further action against the driver. The motorist, feeling threatened, reportedly complied and handed over the money. However, the situation escalated further when the driver, now in distress, sought help from authorities.

The motorist then attempted to drive away but was followed by Inspector Dida, who reportedly entered the vehicle and ordered that it be driven to a nearby police station. Along the way, the officer was confronted by the Nairobi Central duty officer along Slip Road, where a confrontation ensued.

It is alleged that Inspector Dida attacked the duty officer in an attempt to evade the situation. The altercation was witnessed by bystanders, who promptly alerted other law enforcement officials. The Nairobi Central duty officer was unharmed, and further action was swiftly taken to arrest the officer involved in the misconduct.

"The officer has been arrested and will face the full force of the law. We do not condone such behavior within our ranks, and we are committed to upholding the integrity of the police force," a spokesperson for the Nairobi Police Department said.

The arrest has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. The Inspector’s actions are being seen as a clear violation of police ethics and a betrayal of public trust.

The motorist involved in the incident was also taken to the police station, where statements were recorded, and the case is currently under investigation. Inspector Dida will face charges related to corruption, assault, and abuse of office, pending further legal proceedings.

The incident has once again raised questions about police conduct in the country, with calls for greater accountability and transparency in the force. As investigations continue, the public and stakeholders are urging that justice be served to restore faith in the law enforcement system.
