President William Ruto has today launched the issuance of over 10,000 title deeds to residents of Elgeyo Marakwet County, a significant milestone aimed at enhancing land ownership, promoting economic empowerment, and fostering peace in the region.

Speaking during the event at Tot, the President emphasized that the formalization of land ownership through title deeds would not only give the people of Kerio Valley security of tenure but also play a crucial role in addressing long-standing inter-community conflicts that have plagued the region for years.

"This is a historic day for the people of Elgeyo Marakwet County and the larger Kerio Valley. The issuance of these title deeds is a symbol of our government's commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan, regardless of where they live, has secure and rightful ownership of their land," President Ruto said, as he handed over the title deeds to jubilant beneficiaries.

The President acknowledged that land disputes in Kerio Valley have often been a source of tension between various communities, with disputes over ownership and boundaries sometimes escalating into violence. However, he assured the residents that with legal documentation now in their hands, such conflicts would be mitigated, paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

"Land is the foundation of our people's livelihood. It is the source of food, income, and heritage. By giving people legal ownership, we are not only protecting their rights but also enabling them to make the most of their land's economic potential," he said. "When people feel secure in their land, they are more likely to invest in it, farm it, and use it to build better lives for themselves and their families."

The President further pointed out that the issuance of title deeds is a key part of the government's broader agenda to empower communities and uplift their living standards. With clear land ownership, residents can now access credit facilities, make long-term investments, and even engage in agricultural projects that can transform their communities.

"Land ownership is not just about security; it is about opportunity. By formalizing land rights, we open the door for the people of Elgeyo Marakwet to maximize the potential of their land. From agriculture to real estate development, the opportunities are endless," President Ruto remarked.

The event also saw the participation of several local leaders, including Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, who praised the President’s leadership in addressing the challenges of land ownership and promoting peace in the region.

"This is a great step forward for our people," Governor Rotich said. "With the issuance of these title deeds, we are witnessing the empowerment of the community, and the peace that has eluded us for so long is now within reach."

The President also reiterated the government's commitment to resolving all remaining land issues in the country, encouraging Kenyans to work together to ensure that the land reforms continue to benefit all.

As the ceremony concluded, the new landowners of Elgeyo Marakwet expressed their gratitude for the long-awaited issuance of title deeds, with many acknowledging the significance of the moment and the positive impact it would have on their lives.

"This is a dream come true. I now have a secure future for my family, and I can plan for the future with confidence," said one of the beneficiaries, Sarah Chebet, a resident of Tot.

The government’s land reforms are expected to continue across the country, with more title deeds being distributed to residents in various regions in the coming months. The initiative is seen as part of President Ruto’s broader strategy to empower Kenyans and foster sustainable economic growth through secure land ownership.
