President Ruto’s Western Kenya Tour: A Milestone for Development and Transformation

President Dr. William Ruto’s recent working visit to Western Kenya marked a significant step toward the development and transformation of the region, with key initiatives launched to boost local economies and improve healthcare access. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County accompanied the President during the tour, which saw the groundbreaking of several transformative projects in Bungoma and Kakamega Counties.

In Bungoma, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the highly anticipated Soko Kubwa Modern Market, which is expected to serve as a major commercial hub, improving trade and creating job opportunities for locals. In his address, Governor Barasa expressed gratitude to the President for his unwavering commitment to advancing development in Kakamega County and the wider Western Kenya region. “We are grateful for the President's continued support, particularly in fostering intergovernmental collaboration that accelerates the realization of our development goals,” Governor Barasa stated.

The President’s visit also had a significant impact in Kakamega County, where he presided over several groundbreaking initiatives. One of the highlights was the issuance of bonuses to sugarcane farmers, a historic event as it marked the first-ever payout to the hardworking farmers who play a critical role in the region’s sugar industry. This move is expected to boost the morale of farmers, improve production, and enhance the overall sustainability of the sector.

Additionally, President Ruto launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity project, which aims to connect 35,000 households to the national grid. The project is a crucial step in ensuring that rural communities in Kakamega County and beyond have access to reliable electricity, which is essential for improving living standards, enabling small businesses to thrive, and powering educational and healthcare facilities.

Another major highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the state-of-the-art Khwisero Mother-Child Level 4 Hospital. This new facility is set to enhance maternal and child health services in the region, providing high-quality care to women and children and reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to seek medical attention.

The projects launched during President Ruto's visit are part of the broader efforts to drive socio-economic development in Western Kenya, with a focus on healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. Governor Barasa reaffirmed the commitment of the Kakamega County government to continue working closely with the national government to ensure that these initiatives deliver tangible benefits to the people of the region.

“The collaboration between the national government and county governments is key to ensuring that the people of Western Kenya enjoy the fruits of development,” Governor Barasa added. “We are excited about the future and the opportunities these projects bring to our communities.”

President Ruto’s Western Kenya tour is seen as a major boost to the region’s development, and the initiatives launched are expected to have a lasting impact on the economic and social well-being of the people in Bungoma, Kakamega, and beyond.
