School Heads ask for quick Capitation Funds

By Grace Waithaka

Chairperson of  Kenya Primary Heads Association (KEPSHA), Mr. Johnson Nzioka urged the government to expedite the release of capitation funds to ensure smooth and uninterrupted learning in schools. His appeal comes in the wake of an announcement by the National Treasury that Ksh 48 billion will be disbursed towards the end of the month to support public schools.

Mr. Nzioka emphasized that the delay in releasing capitation funds has posed significant challenges to the day-to-day operations of schools, making it difficult to maintain the quality of education. He called on the government to prioritize the timely allocation of these funds to avoid financial strain on institutions.

The National Treasury acknowledged the concerns raised, urging school administrators to remain patient as it works towards fulfilling its financial obligations. The anticipated Ksh 48 billion is expected to alleviate the persistent financial struggles schools have faced over the years, including difficulties in meeting operational costs and providing essential resources.

Education stakeholders have expressed optimism that this year’s capitation funds will address the challenges schools have endured, ensuring a stable environment for both teachers and learners. However, they caution that further delays could compromise the quality of education delivery.

The disbursement of capitation funds remains a critical lifeline for public schools, with education leaders calling for a sustainable and timely framework to prevent disruptions in the education sector.
