Sinyereri Queens Triumph at Governor’s Cup 2024, Secure Ksh 1 Million Prize

Sinyereri Queens, crowned champions of the Governor’s Cup 2024, have been awarded the top prize of Ksh 1 million.

The awards ceremony, held on Thursday at the County Social Hall, celebrated grassroots talent and marked a significant milestone for women’s sports in the county.

The runners-up, White Ladies, received Ksh 700,000, while Undersan FC, finishing in third place, earned Ksh 500,000. Makunga FC, in fourth place, walked away with Ksh 250,000.

“This victory means everything to us, we’ve worked incredibly hard for this moment, and the support from our fans and county leaders has been incredible.” said the Sinyereri Queens’ captain.

The event was graced by county officials, including Patrick Gicheru, the County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture, and Tourism.

Speaking on behalf of Governor George Natembeya, Mr. Gicheru praised the players for their dedication and emphasized the importance of fair distribution of the prize money.

“Players are the heartbeat of these tournaments. Team managers must ensure the funds are used to reward their hard work and sacrifices,” he said.

The tournament finals, held last week, featured thrilling matches that highlighted the growing significance of grassroots football in the region.

Mr. Gicheru also underscored the broader purpose of the Governor’s Cup: fostering unity and nurturing young talent.

“Investing in grassroots sports creates opportunities and improves livelihoods. The Governor’s Cup is about more than football – it’s about community and progress,” he added.

The men’s awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, this week, at the same venue.
