Speaker Moses Wetangula Pays Tribute to Late Mother, Annah Nanyama Wetang'ula

In an emotional tribute to his late mother, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has expressed the indescribable pain of losing a mother, describing it as a wound that remains permanent and inexpressible. He reflected on the overwhelming challenge of starting the New Year without the usual love, words of hope, encouragement, and prayers from his mother, Annah Nanyama Wetang'ula, who passed away at the age of 94.

Speaking at a mass held in her honor, Wetangula conveyed the family's deep sense of loss, but also expressed gratitude to God for the 94 years granted to their late matriarch. The mass, which was attended by friends, family, and well-wishers, was officiated by Rev. Fr. Protus Osyanju, the Parish Priest of Kanduyi Catholic Church.

Fr. Osyanju led mourners in prayers and urged the Wetangula family to ensure that their mother's legacy of love, kindness, and service to others lives on for generations. Wetangula, deeply moved by the words of comfort, thanked the parish priest for his spiritual guidance during this difficult time.

"I will forever hold your acts of love in my heart, Mum," Wetangula said tearfully in his address, recalling the lasting impact his mother had on him and the family.

The Speaker also expressed his appreciation to the funeral organizing committee, chaired by Hon. Dr. John Chikati (Tongaren) and his deputy Hon. Mwambu Mabonga, for their tireless efforts in ensuring that the preparations for the burial of their matriarch, set for this Friday, are well coordinated.

The final journey for Annah Nanyama Wetang'ula will begin tomorrow with a requiem mass and body viewing session at the Wetangula family ancestral home, starting at noon. The Speaker called on all those attending to join the family in honoring the memory of their beloved matriarch.

In his remarks, Wetangula extended gratitude to the many leaders, dignitaries, and government officials who have shown support during this period. Among the leaders present were his brother Hon. Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands), Hon. Joseph Oyula (Butula), Hon. Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Hon. Dr. John Chikati (Tongaren), Hon. John Makali (Kanduyi), Senator Wafula Wakoli (Bungoma), Hon. Joyce Atieno Bensouda (Homabay), Hon. Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, and several senior government officers.

As the Wetangula family prepares to lay their mother to rest, they continue to draw strength from the outpouring of love and solidarity from the community and leaders across the country. Speaker Moses Wetangula expressed his deepest gratitude for the support and prayers extended to the family during this time of mourning.
